デトロイト郊外の小さな町で生まれ育つ。ウェスタン・ミシガン大学経営学部を卒業 後、エンターテイメント業界に身を置くべくアン・アーバーへ移住。17才からクラ ブDJとしてのキャリアをスタートさせたDJ BENZIであるが、ミックス・テープ(CD)の 発表をきっかけに注目を一気に集める。また、”REFIXES”と命名された、オリジナリティ 溢れる独自のスタイルのリミックス、さらにはTHE CLIPSE、LIL WAYNEといった面々と の共作シリーズである”WE GOT THE REMIX”の成功等によって、シーンにおける自らの 地位を確立。メインストリーム・ヒップホップとクラブ / DJカルチャーを融合させた ことで、BENZIの名を世界的に知らしめた。2008年度だけでもURBのNEXT 100リスト、FADER、SCRATCH、ROLLING STONEといった名だたる雑誌をはじめ、THE WASHINGTON POST紙、MTV等に登場した。その勢いは止まることなく、現在はKANYE WEST、PAPER ROUTE RECORDZ、LIL JONらとオフィシャル・リミックスを制作中。自身のデビュー・ アルバムとなる”GET RIGHT”も、AMALGAM ENTERTAINMENTより2009年4月に発売予定。制 作活動だけでなく、DJとしてツアーも精力的に敢行。この数年はDIPLO、THE CLIPSE、THE COOL KIDS、MICK BOOGIEといったビッグ・ネームらと世界各国で共演を果たして いる。
Born and raised on a small island just outside of Detroit, DJ Benzi has been separating himself from the competition for the past 25 years.
After picking up his degree in Business Economics at Western Michigan University, Benzi relocated to Ann Arbor to pursue a career in the entertainment field full time. He started growing his roots as a Club DJ at the age of 17, but it wasn’t until he started producing and hitting the mix tape circuit that he really started gaining the attention he deserved. In the past year Benzi’s buzz has skyrocketed with a whirlwind of attention from his patented “refixes” and the refreshing work he has done with The Clipse and Lil Wayne on the popular “We Got The Remix” series.
DJ Benzi is most known for his creative twist on bridging the club/dj culture with that of commercial mainstream hip hop. The Detroit-area remix maven is rapidly gaining notoriety, this year alone he was been chosen to URB Magazine’s Next 100 list and has shown up in Fader Magazine, Scratch Magazine, Rolling Stone, The Washington Post, and MTV.
The buzz will continue to build as he is currently working on official remix projects with Kanye West, Paper Route Recordz, and Lil Jon. Along with the remix albums, his own debut album “Get Right” on Amalgam Entertainment is in the works with a release date set for April 2009. Over the last two years Benzi has also been on the road rocking shows all over the world and performing along side talent such as Diplo, the Clipse, the Cool Kids, Mick Boogie, and many other big names.
