グラスゴーを拠点に活動するエレクトロ/ヒップホップ・プロデューサー。
‘07年、400枚限定でプレスされたEP「JAGZ THE SMACK EP」でデビュー。
クランクやダブ・ステップ、エレクトロニカ、ベース・ミュージックなどの要素を消化した独自のブロークン・ヒップホップ・スタイルを確立した。
地元グラスゴーのDRESS 2 SWEATからリリースされたB-MOREレジェンド・クリエイターROD LEEの第2弾12″「LET ME SEE WHAT U WORKIN’ WITH」や、リリースも確定したと伝えられるWARPからのJAMIE LIDELL「ANOTHER DAY」、ダブ・ステップ名門HYPERDUBからリリースされたZOMBYの”SPLIFF DUB”といった話題作へのリミックス提供も果たし、’00年代後半のエレクトロ・ヒップホップ・シーンを担う存在として大きな注目を集めている。
また、同名義に先駆け活動を開始したVOLTAIC名義では、よりマッドなエレクトロ・スタイルを展開し、POINT.ONE RECORDINGSから3枚のEPをリリース。
Rustie spent 2008 furthering his reputation as an underground hero from our unlikely city of Glasgow. Name-checked and championed by everyone from Modeselektor and Kode9 to Mary Anne Hobbs, Warp Records and Rough Trade (who have requested his track Zig-Zag for their ‘Counter Culture’ 2009 compilation). In short Rustie is 100% original dope shit, and 2009 will see him go from strength to strength. Forthcoming releases include a second EP on Wireblock, plus an album on Warp Records.
